How to Make French Press Coffee
We love coffee. No, we REALLY love coffee. Coffee is not only a sacred ritual for us, but a passion we love to share with friends and family. Over the 10+ years of our relationship we’ve tested and tried different methods of breweing. For a few years, we were die hard pour over fans. We also dabbled with espresoo machines and have had our fair share of bad experices with electric coffe makers and pods. After many years, we have come to the conclusion that French Press coffee is the way to go. Its the most underrated, easy, and efficient way to make the perfect cup of coffe. Of course, there are a few things that you need in order to make this happen, and like any great cup of coffee, it all starts with the beans and the way they are ground.
Here at the Jtree BrickHouse, we have provided you with our French press coffee essentials - A burr coffee grinder, stainless steel kettle, stainless steel press and milk frother. Once you learn the Jtree Brickhouse way of coffee - you’ll never go back.
RECIPE
Makes 4 cups of French press coffee
STEP 1: HEAT THE WATER
Fill the water kettle with filtered water. Heat over high heat until it’s just off the boil (if you want to geek out, kettle thermometer, should read between 205-210)
STEP 2: THE GRIND
Add the beans on the top container of the grinder (we are currently using the zwilling burr grinder.) Next, pull on the black lever located on the bottom part of the bean container.
Turn the dial to the number 8. This represents the number of tablespoons (we have a 2 tablespoons per every 8oz cup of coffee rule). Press the middle button, and let the grinder do its thing.
STEP 3: POUR, STIR AND LET SEEP.
Pour the coffee into the French press. Fill it up halfway to the top with hot water, saturating all the grounds, making sure that there are no dry spots. After a minute, stir the coffee with a long wooden spoon. Now, fill it all the way to the top with water. Put the top on and allow the coffee to brew for four minutes without pressing it down. After 4 minutes… you are ready to press. Firmly push the press all the way down.
STEP 4: FROTH YOUR MILK
While your coffee brews, pour your milk of choice (and honey) into the milk frother (we are currently using the zwilling milk frother). run dial to the left to heat and press the dial to activate.
STEP 5: SERVE AND ENJOY
Pour coffee into mug and top with frothed milk.. Enjoy. Thank us later.
